Why Negev?

In 2002, the Merage Foundation - Israel adopted the Negev and its development as the main focus of its philanthropic activity in Israel. Representing nearly 60% of Israel's land mass, the Negev holds untapped potential to expand Israel's economic base, provides an unsurpassed quality of life for young Israeli families, and offers forgotten beauty and historical significance for the enjoyment of residents and tourists from around the world. Building upon an extensive, successful entrepreneurial heritage, the Merage Foundation - Israel will promote development of Negev with interested parties. All development and program efforts are conducted with the deepest respect for the land, its residents, and the diverse cultures which exist in the Negev.

The overall aims of the initiative are to encourage educational excellence, enrich cultural life, provide a wide range of employment opportunities, and develop high-quality residential areas with a multitude of community amenities. In the end, the
Negev will be a highly desirable, livable, and prosperous region.
