DENVER, CO, Nov. 10, 2010 -- EPIC (Executives Partnering to Invest in Children), an organization comprised of business leaders, nonprofits and foundations advocating for quality investments in early childhood development, announced today that Mary Atchison has been named executive director, effective November 29, 2010.
She comes to the organization from United Way of Larimer County in Fort Collins. During her tenure as Senior Vice President for Community Investment at United Way she successfully established a county-wide effort to alleviate poverty by developing multiple initiatives and leading numerous task forces.
She is a recognized leader in Northern Colorado in efforts to improve people’s lives. Prior to her work at United Way she served as a nonprofit Executive Director. She was also instrumental in the design and implementation of the Colorado 2-1-1 system, a statewide network of call centers providing information and referrals to people in need of services. She served as the Chair of the Colorado 2-1-1 Collaborative for five years.
Originally a Marriage and Family Therapist with a 10 year private practice, Mary served as President of the Colorado Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and on the national MFT Ethics Committee. She has also founded and sold several businesses.
Mary has been involved in volunteer leadership positions with numerous community arts and culture efforts in northern Colorado, including a three year tenure as the President of the Board of Trustees for the Poudre River Public Library District. She also has led several local ballot initiatives and legislative efforts.
Mary holds a Master’s Degree in Human Development and Family Studies and a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Psychology, both from Colorado State University.
