Merage Foundations Partner with Project Helping and ELV to Bring Volunteer Service to Child Care Providers in Colorado

Aug 19 2015

This year, a new volunteer program, known as MERAGEhelp, launched in Colorado. The MERAGEhelp program is a joint effort between the David and Laura Merage Foundation, Early Learning Ventures and Project Helping that provides volunteer support to child care providers.  The volunteers provide facility maintenance and make necessary upgrades, resulting in increased quality of care. This unique partnership brings together several organizations to work together for a common goal – improving the educational environments for young children.

So far, MERAGEhelp has facilitated 2 volunteer events to support child care providers who are members of the Early Learning Ventures Alliance network and has plans for 10 more before the end of 2015. These events provide a range of services to the child care facilities, such as painting, assisting with landscaping needs, sanitizing toys, and much more – all of which are components of the Colorado Shines quality rating system. The David & Laura Merage Foundation is grateful for the significant impacts Project Helping volunteers are making as many child care providers lack the resources to make these necessary upgrades on their own.

Additionally, these events support Project Helping’s mission of using the joy of purpose created by volunteering to improve mental wellness. Project Helping leverages volunteer opportunities not just for the benefit of the child care providers they are serving, but also for the amazing health benefits volunteers experience through volunteering.  Project Helping engages a range of volunteers, including those that battle depression, and they use it as a means for promoting improved mental wellness.

Sue Renner, Executive Director of the Merage Foundations said, “We are thrilled to be partnering with Project Helping and ELV to bring volunteer support to child care providers who are in need of updates and upgrades to maintain and improve the quality of their child care environments. The early results and ROI have been phenomenal, and we are pleased to be a part of this unique approach to improving child care quality and the health and wellness of volunteers in one single effort.”
