Sue Renner Meets with Colorado Congressman Mike Coffman

Mar 16 2015

On March 10, Sue Renner, Executive Director of the Merage Foundations, had the pleasure of meeting with Congressman Mike Coffman at the Merage Foundation headquarters. Along with his Chief of Staff, Ben Stein, Congressman Coffman was pleased to learn about the breadth of support provided by Early Learning Ventures (ELV) to child care providers in Colorado.

As a former member of the Small Business Committee and general supporter of community businesses, Congressman Coffman was very eager to learn about how ELV provides start up technical assistance for new child care providers as he expressed that several new immigrant groups in Aurora have conveyed an interest in starting child care businesses.

Sue also shared ELV’s recent award of the Early Head Start-Child Care Partnership Grant that will expand Early Head Start (EHS) services to 240 eligible children and families in 4 counties in Colorado, including Arapahoe where the Congressman’s district lies.

Congressman Coffman represents the 6th Congressional District of Colorado and serves on the Armed Services Committee and the Veteran’s Affairs Committee where he is the Chairman for the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations. He is the only veteran in the Colorado delegation and the only Member of Congress to have served in both Iraq Wars. We are looking forward to sharing our future work with Congressman Coffman.

Early Learning Ventures (ELV) was seed-funded by the David & Laura Merage Foundation, who remains an engaged partner to ELV, providing support and resources that range from accounting and human resources to marketing to executive counsel.
